Why it's different
Most "couple" apps put your most intimate moments on a company's servers. Couples was built the opposite way — the two of you are the only ones who can ever see a thing.
Every message, photo and note is sealed with a Double Ratchet (the same family of crypto as Signal). Only your two devices hold the keys.
No email, no phone number, no profile. You pair by scanning each other's QR code once — that's the whole sign-up.
The relay is a blind courier: it forwards sealed envelopes between your phones and never sees content, keys, or who you are.
Messages travel directly phone-to-phone over an encrypted channel. When a direct link isn't possible, a relay passes it along — still sealed end-to-end.
Don't want to trust anyone's server? Point the app at your own. It runs on a spare PC or a Raspberry Pi.
Everything is stored locally on your devices. "Unpair" wipes it — no cloud copy to forget about, no export request to file.
